Tips for Decorating your Home for Winter with Festive Floral Arrangements

flower delivery Sheffield florist shop Christmas flowersI’m always surprised at how quickly Christmas sneaks up on us, and this year has been no exception. Before long, we’ll be decking the halls and getting the house ready for the festive season. Despite the difficult year it’s been, and the realisation that Christmas might not be quite the same this year, there’s no better way to lift the spirits than to start planning how you’re going to decorate your home for winter.

As a local Sheffield florist, I always get excited for decorating my home with festive floral arrangements. So, here are a few of my favourite ways to bring the outside in over the Christmas period.

Christmas Wreaths

Christmas wreaths are a tradition I go back to again and again, especially as I hold regular wreath making classes at my flower shop in Sheffield. Of course, ornamental wreath arrangements can be hung up both inside and outside of the home at any time of year, but the traditional Christmas wreath is still a universal symbol of the festive season. Wreaths can be contemporary or traditional, and made out of almost anything. Classic Christmas wreaths often feature fresh greenery such as pine, ivy, and holly, and seasonal flowers and berries for a festive splash of colour.

Festive Poinsettias

If you’d prefer to keep it simple this Christmas, bringing a poinsettia into your home is a great way to add a festive floral feature. Typically bursting into flower at Christmas time, the poinsettia boasts cheery foliage in reds and greens, and has a distinct shape that many associate with Christmas.

Christmas Table Centrepieces

A floral Christmas centrepiece for Christmas tables is always a firm favourite. Lilies are perfect for centrepieces and winter flower arrangements, especially when teamed with candles for festive dinners with family and friends. A white candle centrepiece can be really elegant, casting a beautiful Christmassy glow on the room. White lilies are also a firm Christmas favourite, as are fragrant white chrysanthemums.

If you’d like some expert advice on festive wreath making, we’re holding a series of sessions at our Sheffield flower shop this winter (subject to lockdown restrictions).  To take part in one of these sessions, please call our Flower School on 0114 2664985. Priced at £50 per person, this includes all materials, complementary tea, coffee & cake, and you can take your wreath home with you.
